Planned in 10 days!

This wedding was our first destination wedding on the enchanted island of Puerto Rico and we planned it in 10 days. The bride contacted us very stressed and frantic about her upcoming wedding and described how time had slipped out of her hands with her busy work life. She now had guests traveling to Puerto Rico from different parts of the world including Uganda and Nigeria. Some guests traveled for 36+ hours to join them for their destination wedding. The venue at Hotel El Convento was the only item the bride had booked.

Our inspiration came from the bright colors used in Nigerian and Ugandan weddings and from their wedding invitation. The invites had a black and white Damask pattern on a purple linen stock. Deep purple was the main color for the table linens and black and white Damask fabric was used as a table runner. The flowers used were white Calla Lilies, red Roses and purple Dendrobium Orchids.

The ceremony took place at the oldest Methodist church in Old San Juan, Santisima Trinidad Methodist Church. As the couple walked out of the church the bell rang and was heard throughout Old San Juan. Residents whistled and applauded from their balconies as they saw the couple walking down the cobblestone streets towards their reception venue.

During the reception we kept the Nigerian tradition of the Kola Nut and it was introduced to some of the guests. The kola nut is given as a symbol of hospitality, friendship and respect; and is presented to guests at important social events such as weddings. The person who breaks the kola-nut is usually the most respected person in attendance, and the breaking of the nut symbolizes the celebration. It was truly magical!
